I'm going to start this off by saying I'm not usually interested in stories about vampires, Buffy being the exception. Anne Rice, Stephanie Meyer, etc? No thanks. It's just not my thing. But I picked this one up because the vibe of the story seemed different to me, and I'm very glad I did!
I love the queer representation here, and I love that the good vs. evil story line has a worldwide impact that transcends the main characters themselves. Without revealing too many spoilers, I know that this is a trilogy in the making and I'm looking forward to seeing how Christian, James, and Asya grow and mature. It feels weird to type that, because technically Christian and James are hundreds of years old, but there's clearly some things they are learning from their newest partner, and it might be my favorite aspect of the story: that even after hundreds of years there's still something you can learn from someone you love.
If you want to read a story about a struggle to make a better world, but also with LGBTQ and alternative relationship representation, this is the story for you!
